Pengyao’s AI Portfolio

Things I’ve built outside of work, exploring the frontier of AI capability and product potential. All the following projects are built in collaboration with AI without writing a line of code by hand.

Summra Book

Classic literature, rewritten sentence-by-sentence into modern English.

A free reading platform that pairs the original text of 90+ classic books with an AI-generated plain-English translation, side by side. Built with Flask, SQLite, and Gemini.

Storytime

Your voice. Your kid’s favorite book. Even when you’re not there.

A local Mac app that lets parents photograph any picture book, record 5–10 seconds of their voice, and generate audio for every page using on-device AI voice cloning. Kids get a tap-to-play, swipe-to-turn reading experience — entirely free. Built with FastAPI, Apple Vision OCR, and Qwen3-TTS via MLX.

OpenReader fullscreen article reader showing the article title, byline, and Summarize/Star controls in the top bar

OpenReader

The open-source, self-hosted alternative to Feedly and Inoreader — without the monthly bill.

A self-hosted RSS/Atom and newsletter reader that replaces Feedly and Inoreader’s paywalled features — regex filtering, folders, full-text extraction, AI summaries — with config on a server you own. Small enough to run on a $5/month 1GB VM, with a Summarize button that runs on your own Claude subscription instead of a resold API markup. Built with Python/FastAPI, React, and SQLite.
